Two years have now elapsed since the transfer of the

British Postal Agencies in China from the Colonial to the Imperial

Post Office, but instead of giving relief to our respective depart-

ments by this change, the burden of the work has increased consider-

ably by the creation of additional work in keeping separate accounts

where heretofore one was sufficient. Owing to the officers in charge

of the various agencies not being familiar with the keeping of

statisties and other accounts with other Administrations the whole

work of preparing the same has had to be done by the officers of our

departments. All this additional work has necessitated an increasing

amount of overtime to be spent in obtaining and tabulating the

infomation required.

You are personally aware that, besides working late

every day, we devote every Saturdays and Sundays to the office in order to be able to supply the returns and information called for,

and it is a common occurrence to take home work to do at nights so as to avoid ourrent work of the departments being neglected or falling

into arrears.

from

We are certain that it needs only the representation

of the facts above alluded to, to the notice of His Majesty's Post- master General that the extra work thus entailed on us will meet with

the equitable consideration of the Home Government.

We therefore humbly request that you will kindly endorse our statments and, in forwarding our request to the General Post Office, London, accord us your valuable recommendation with a view of obtaining some monetary compensation for the past two years and for such further period as these agencies may still be conducted

under your directions.

We have, etc.
